EastWest has launched DrumX, a new virtual instrument developed in collaboration with producer Jimmy Jam. The plugin emphasizes groove in beat creation by combining faithfully captured sounds from 10 iconic drum machines—the TR-808, TR-909, TR-606, LinnDrum, LM-1, DR-55, DR-110, DMX, DrumTraks, and SP-12—with exclusive custom samples created by Jimmy Jam.
Aimed at music creators, producers, and beatmakers working in genres such as Dance Industrial, R&B Funk, Pop, Hip Hop, and Ballad, DrumX includes hundreds of ready-to-play grooves programmed by Jimmy Jam. Users can access full kits from each drum machine, along with specialized instruments: DX Pitched for melodic tuning across pads, DX Stacks for layering kicks, snares, or hi-hats from multiple machines, and DX Layers for switching machine variations. Additional features encompass a step sequencer, deep sound design tools, a professional effects chain, tape saturation modeled after Studer tape machines including the J-37, and re-amping options using EastWest Studios 1 and 2.
DrumX is available now as a free addition for ComposerCloud+ subscribers, with a perpetual license set to go on sale May 27th, 2026. More details are available on the EastWest website.
