Universal Audio has launched the UAD Enigmatic ’82 Overdrive Special Amp, a new amplifier effect plugin modeled after Dumble Amplifiers’ Overdrive Special amps. The plugin allows users to customize their own ODS circuit and select from nine classic mic and speaker pairings. It targets guitarists interested in recreating tones associated with artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana, and Joe Bonamassa.
Key features include authentic Overdrive Special tones spanning four decades of amp models, from clean to crunch. Users can deeply customize by mixing power sections, tone stacks, and the HRM mod. The plugin offers nine curated cab and mic setups, plus over 40 presets from pros like Joey Landreth, Megan Lovell, and Daniel Donato.
Developed from captures of early Santa Cruz models to later LA session versions, the plugin runs in VST3, AU, and AAX formats on Windows and macOS. It is available now at an introductory price of $49 USD until May 25th, 2026, rising to $99 USD afterward. Purchase options include Plugin Boutique, AudioDeluxe, and the UAD store.
