Plugin Boutique is currently offering an exclusive discount on Cinematique Instruments’ Kontakt instrument library that showcases the unique sound of a hammered dulcimer. This instrument features 31 string pairs stretched over a trapezoidal-shaped sound box.
The Hammered Dulcimer sample library includes a sophisticated patch with three different articulations and advanced scripting.
The hammered dulcimer was recorded using two microphone positions. We placed a pair of Neumann U87s at the top of the instrument in an MS stereo setup, and at the bottom, we used a single condenser microphone. These two positions capture a wide range of sounds, allowing you to mix them according to your preferences. We focused on three main articulations: the “Mallet” articulation, where we struck the strings with small wooden mallets; the “Sticks” articulation, where we used a drum stick; and the “Muted” articulation, where we struck the strings with a timpani mallet and dampened the strings with the palm of the hand. Each articulation was recorded with 4 round-robin variations and up to 4 velocity layers.
The instrument also provides two different ways to play the typical hammered dulcimer tremolo, along with various functions and effects to enhance the overall sound, such as reverb, delay, decay, distortion, and octave control.
The Hammered Dulcimer is compatible with the full version of Kontakt 5.6.8 or higher and is currently on sale for $41 USD until October 8th, 2023.
